Lacy Park, right next to Pasadena, has a great fireworks show. So bring a lawn chair and a friend and a dish to share (if you want to participate in the potluck). In light of AAPI History month, join us and the Chinese Historical Society (CHS) of Southern California for a guided walking tour of LA’s Chinatown on Saturday, May 24, tentatively from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Together, we’ll explore the neighborhood’s rich history from 19th-century roots to modern-day community highlighting immigration, culture, economics, and faith. The tour is immersive, informative, and led by passionate volunteers from CHS. Afterward, we plan to enjoy a shared meal together in Chinatown!

Missio's first-ever dance party is Friday night, May 9 from 7:30-10:30pm at the Tang's home. Whether you like to dance or not, come, bring a friend, play board games, and have relaxed time together. What is the role of ethnoburbs, PWI-WAA (predominantly white institutions with a lot of Asians), and ethnic churches for Asian Americans? How might we think about affirmative action and ethnic studies programs? How might the refusal to assimilate help form a more robust Asian American political identity? Join us this May (AAPI Heritage Month) as we discuss these questions through reading Bianca Mabute-Louie's memoir, Unassimilable, set in the San Gabriel Valley (SGV). We’ll meet for four Sundays in May, from 12:30pm-2:30pm.

We'll celebrate the resurrection of Christ with a special Easter service followed by a free taco truck luncheon after worship. So invite a friend!

Union Station will be serving a Thanksgiving lunch for the residents at Centennial Place. We have been invited to join them and share the meal and conversation with the residents. The Race and Faith Narrative groups are a space to share, hear, and process our race and faith journeys. The groups will be small (four people max in each group) and will be meeting for four weeknights in June at various places in Pasadena.

Format: Each week, one group member will share their life story through the lens of race and faith. Other group members will hold space for the sharer in prayerful and attentive listening. After sharing, the group will have an opportunity to respond by offering anything they may have received from God or from their own listening to the story.

Missio sponsors Science and Faith events 2-3 times per year on the Caltech campus, and the event includes a free dinner (for members of the Caltech community), a talk , and time for Q&A and dialog about the topic.

Pythagoras taught in 500BC what science now affirms: that the hidden order of the universe can be expressed through mathematics. Why is the universe intelligible to us in this way?

Our conversation will start with a talk from Dr. Alexey Burov, a physicist at the Fermi National Laboratory in Chicago, where he is employed as Senior Scientist. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, and the organizer and chair of Fermi Society of Philosophy.
